I had a goal - run in the 13.1 half marathon in NYC on April 3rd.
It was a good goal, an achievable goal. Then on Dec 21st I broke the 5th metatarsal on my right foot. Life happens - and you need to adjust your goals.
The doc says my foot is healing NORMALLY :) was kinda looking for extra ordinary but...
I will wear the boot for the rest of January and he thinks i'll be able to run 2 weeks later. So that basically puts the April 3rd race beyond what i can accomplish. I don't think, with 6 weeks off, and only 6 weeks of starting to train before that I could get up to 13.1 miles in that time frame. My friend Kelly found an alternative. The Clinton Country Run, a 15k race on April 25th, 2010. It gives me another 3 or 4 weeks to train. I know I can get up to a decent 9 mile distance by April 25th.
Monday I head up to the gym and join. Doc says I can ride a bike, not really using my right foot, so that's what I'm gonna do. Plus belonging to the gym will be a good alternative when the weather is not good ( don't want to fall in a hole again).
13.1 half marathon - I"ll see you soon but not just yet.
